MOTARASU is a Danish-Japanese design brand started in 2019 by Mikkel Zebitz. The dream was to combine design from Japan and Denmark, as both nations have stylistic similarities and long design traditions that inspire each other. This synergy is called 'Japandi' and enables the creation of unique, functional and beautiful products. The brand has large assembled a team of designers who understand and respect both cultures. Lars Vejen and Taijiro Ishiko are behind the stylish Float chair, as well as Akiko Ken Made, Masuko Unayama and Stilleben, who have designed the Reflex stool, the Union tray and the Shiro bowls respectively. One of the most notable designs is the Hokore the pendant, designed by Tani Toshiyuki. The pendant is handmade and made using the traditional Japanese art form of takesensuji, where almost 1000 small bamboo sticks are used for a lamp. The technique testifies to the Japanese aesthetic, where craftsmanship and patience are valued and seen as a form of meditation. The brand's philosophy is based on the desire to promote a more conscious lifestyle that prioritizes quality over quantity. The impressive product range supports the Japanese traditions of calm, simplicity, sustainability and quality design. In this way, MOTARASU becomes proof of Mikkel Zebitz's ambition to unite the best of Japanese and Danish design traditions in harmonious and high-quality designs. |
